MY HOMETOWN: DRAWING POSITIVE MEMORIES FROM CHILDHOOD. Growing up in the 1980’s at Puerto Princesa City capital of Palawan was my very best memories of childhood. Pampered child in the comfort of our home, lots of relatives, enrolled at one of the most popular private schools. I couldn’t ask for anything else & that was the entire world I knew.

However the situation changed drastically when I got placed in a traditional Chinese school here in Metro Manila (during 5th Grade). My young mind did not fully understand then why I had to be up-rooted from my comfort zone & honestly had I have it my way, I would not have left until after high school graduation. My new classmates then of course asked where I’m from being the new face in class. When I answered ‘I’m from Palawan’ – the puzzled look is what I get together with “saan yon?”

Times are different nowadays. What I’ve remembered & learned from the above I will forever treasure. There are no wasted experiences. Today I’m reminded.. ‘Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.’ (Philippians 4:9, NIV)
